Rogue wolves get a bad rep because they like to attack pack members and pillage their lands. Standing on the outskirts of Blood Moone Pack territory, I wait in the tree line at the edge of town for a patrol member to pass. Biting my nails to steady my shaking hands, I hope the guard is in man form and not wolf. "Please, sir," I say to the patrol wolf. I need to speak with your Alpha."

I stay calm, forcing myself to remember my peculiar situation.
After a few moments, a man steps out of the shadows and puts a hand on the wolf's back. Walking through the streets of this small, quaint town I catch a few scents that are all too familiar. A smile plays at the edges of my lips and I blink back tears that struggle to escape. Nearing what I assume to be the Pack House, the familiar scents I smelled in town become stronger, causing my nose to twitch in irritation.

"Hey Lux." I hear a familiar voice ring in my ears as I cross the threshold of the Pack House. My heartbeat quickens as my eyes dart around the room, looking for him-Dylan. I know Dylan well, and by the sound of his voice, I know he has a sly grin smeared across his face. My eyes find his, and he flinches as my scent fills the room, declaring my presence.

My eyes darken and swirl black when I notice a girl with dark hair sitting on his lap. Trembling with rage, the other half of my soul - my wolf - wants to rip Dylan's throat out. But the only satisfaction my wolf will receive will be found after I shred that dark haired female on his lap to pieces. Closing my eyes, I take a deep breath to calm my nerves. An intoxicating aroma swirls in my nostrils, one composed of scents both familiar and foreign.

Both are woodsy and masculine, but Dylan's scent is sweeter. Notes of cumin and fresh cut grass drift through the air, stirring up painful memories. Opening my eyes, I focus on Dylan and my lips curling in a silent snarl.

Tearing my eyes off the couch, I become aware of a powerful presence across the room. Power surges through the room and sends shivers rippling down my body. His dominant Alpha force calls to me and I divert my eyes to the ground as a warmth flushes to my cheeks.

Dylan's presence makes it hard to focus, if he is here, I can't stay here another minute. A slight moan escapes the pair and a low growl exits from my throat.

"Lux! Learn to live a little and have fun," Dylan says, moaning as the girl touches and caresses his body. I catch a whiff of that wonderful spicy scent again, that bergamot. My eyes widen at the man in front of me- it's the Alpha who's been tantalizing my senses.

"Rogues don't wander unescorted in my territory," he says with a rich, husky voice. I look deep into his never-ending blue eyes, silently pleading for help. My imploring eyes will him to understand.

Diverting my gaze to the ground, I break eye contact. "May I pass through your territory?"

"Let's go," he says. Taking my hand, he pulls me down the porch. It's a standard pack rule- Alphas don't like rogues. We threaten their authority.

I stare at him skeptically through narrow eyes. "Can I trust you not to run?" I nod. My clothes shred to pieces as they fall from my changing body onto the forest floor. My muscles constrict as my fangs tear through my mouth. My arms and legs contort into four muscular legs built for running. My torso and head are last, the vital organs being the most delicate part of the transformation.

Every facet of my body is broken and reconstructed. For the young, old, or weak, it can be a long and painful process.

Living alone in the wild for so long I'm constantly looking over my shoulder, worrying if I'll live to see the next morning. My rogue lifestyle demands that transforming into my wolf be second nature, so my shift happens within the blink of an eye.

I glance at the Alpha and notice a slight smirk on his lips before he shifts into a striking white wolf. It's a peaceful wood, full of oak trees and evergreens. Our pace quickens until we are running at full speed. I stay next to him as we run, careful to follow his lead. I hear birds chirping from above and squirrels scurrying through the forest floor.

Closing my eyes, I let the wind ruffle my fur. Taking deep breaths and listening to the calming sounds around me, I begin to relax. I've desperately missed this feeling. An exhilarating rush of excitement ripples through my body.

I'm not sure how long we've been running, but we slow our pace as we enter a clearing and stop at a stream. I take a long drink of the cold mountain water.

I notice he's watching me, his eyes narrow and a tiny line forms on his forehead. I lower my head again, taking a slow sip of the refreshing water.

Without hesitation he pounces, catching me by surprise. A low rumble resonates through my body, my eyes wide with excitement. The stream runs down the mountainside cutting through the pines. We're safe here, time for fun. Anticipating my move he catches me in mid air and we're dancing; predicting each other's moves, matching pounce for pounce. As if we were pups, or long lost friends, we tumble playfully through the clearing the rest of the afternoon.

I sit and firmly shake my head no. I turn in the opposite direction and walk. This time he pounces, but it's not playful, he's exercising his Alpha dominance. I close my eyes thinking of my next move. Turning to look, his big white wolf has laid down brushing against me. I cautiously look around taking in my surroundings, admiring the white wolf that engulfs me. I stroke his soft, silky fur tickling my face with his bushy tail. Then it clicks - my hands, my face - I've shifted - and I'm naked! Before I'm able to shift back into my wolf, I noticed he's watching me. A blush rises to my cheeks and I divert my eyes.

"I'm sorry, this has never happened before," I say in a low voice. "Thank you," I flash a weak smile. He nods and then motions to the woods.

I can't go back there," my head falls forward in defeat, my long chestnut hair cascading over my shoulders and covers my chest.

I close my eyes trying to compose myself. He nuzzles the side of my face and I look up to meet his bright blue eyes that are now only inches from my face. I try for a weak smile, failing miserably.

"Dylan...he's...he's my mate," I whisper and then lose control of my emotions. Strong arms wrap around me, pulling my body into his warm embrace. Placing my head on his chest, he holds me while a waterfall of tears streak my face.

I lose track of time and the early morning sun crosses high into the sky. I have no idea how long our bodies stay entwined. I'm naked with a stranger, a male, an Alpha.

I flush, my cheeks exposing a rosy blush. He smiles at me with gentle eyes. My stomach clenches as nervousness rolls through my body causing a slight tremble. I pull my hair in front to hide my face as my gaze moves to the ground.

"You're safe with me," I nod, though butterflies are fluttering in my stomach.

"What's your name?" "Caiden. "Lucinda. "Dylan...he's the only one that's ever called me Lux."

"I lean into him, resting my head on his shoulder.

I tense in his embrace and he shakes his head and softens his tone. "How long have you been rogue?"

"I went rogue on my 18th birthday," he pulls me closer and I relish in the spicy bergamot scent that I've come to love as it swirls on the light breeze, allowing the sense of security to calm me.

"I'll allow you to join the pack if you want to stay," he says. Most Alphas would kill or enslave me." "First, I'm not most Alpha's. I close my eye and lean my forehead against his shoulder.

"Beta?" "Stay a few days, see how you like the pack," I nod, afraid my voice will expose my feelings.

"No," I cross my arms over my chest.

"Lucinda," he says with his dominant Alpha voice. My lips curl into a smile. I'll do anything to delay the confrontation with Dylan.

"Ready to run?" What's never happened?"

"I've never shifted in my sleep." I've never involuntarily shifted back to my human form while sleeping." "When your wolf sleeps, you don't get quality sleep. "Great. Now she's telling me who I can trust to protect me," I dramatically roll my eyes and flash a playful smile. I nod. Cautiously walking to the door, I peek through the window on the door. Caiden doesn't hesitate as he pushes open the door and walks in, motioning me to the bedroom in the rear. Shifting to my human form I look through the bag, it contains a small bag of toiletries and a stack of clothes. Perfect. Walking back into the main room, Caiden turns to me from the small kitchen holding two plates.

"Yes, please," my eyes go wide and I grab my stomach as it grumbles. Thanks. "Can I stay here?" My eyes tear up at his words. The questioning look on Caiden's face, all scrunched up in confusion, is priceless
